Mutton prepared for Iftar evening meal according to halal prescriptions seen in Tripoli, Lebanon, April 7 2022. For the Lebanese islamic people, from April 1 to May 1 2022 occurs the holy month of Ramadan, the dates being determined each year by the lunar Islamic calendar. During Ramadan, Muslims worldwide fast all day long and consume the so called Iftar dinner after the sunset and Suhur before dawn. Typically, before the evening prayer people consume dates, dried apricots and juices; after that, it’s traditional enjoy large meals with family and friends and many restaurants offer Ramadan specials to break the fast. In Lebanon, Iftar consists of fattoush salad and other mezze (appetizers), lentils soup, main dishes including rice, kafta, chicken shawarma, lamb and chicken taouk and rich desserts, some of them being made only during Ramadan month. This year 2022 Ramadan and Lent coincide to some extent, so both Lebanese Christians and Muslims are now fasting at the same time, in an uncommon occurrence. (Photo by Elisa Gestri/Sipa USA)

Established in 1949, the camp hosts about 30.000 Palestinian refugees and their descendants. As Lebanese economic and financial crisis is going on, the situation is even harder for Palestinian refugees in camps as Nahr al Bared. According to OCHA, the UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs, the levels of stress, anxiety, violence and child labour are increasing in the camps, simply because people are hungry. A part of Nahr al Bared is under the responsibility of UNRWA, the United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees, that provides schools, infrastructures and other facilities in the camp; many associations as Musawat Organization, Christian Aid, Najdeh Association help to provide food and medicines to the inhabitants, especially to women and children, as the situation is getting worse. Families of blast's victims gather at the emigrant statue outside the port to mark the 19th month of the explosion, Beirut, Lebanon, March 4 2022. The families protest against officials who are obstructing port blast investigation, run by judge Tareq Bitar. They also denounce the government's will to demolish the ravaged grain silos, that is meant, in their words, "to kill the memory" of the disaster. The demonstrators show portraits of their beloved ones and hold a banner asking the “removal of obstacles to the investigation and the speedy arrest of criminals” responsible for the explosion. Judge Bitar charged with criminal negligence some senior politicians who refused to show up for interrogations, while Security Forces have declined to implement arrest warrants.
